Afternoon all
We are currently pricing up a new server to run Veeam on with the idea of it having DAS storage as its repository and be able to run VMs from if needed via Instant VM Recovery.
Our vendors are struggling to come up with a solution that offers performance to handle instant VM recovery whilst we fix the faulty host and storage capacity.
I have seen reference to a Cisco S3260, now we are normally a HP shop and I don't know what these cost, are they extortionate? Do HP offer similar?
I was thinking of a solution with a mixture of large slow disks, fast disks and SSD to act as a cache.
Anyone with anything similar that isn't silly money?
I apologise if this is in the wrong forum.
Any help/advice appreciated.

Re: Veeam backup server, hardware and rough estimate
how much storage do you need for backups, and how much cpu/ram do you need for temp VM hosting?

Re: Veeam backup server, hardware and rough estimate
Hi
Thanks for responding
Storage wise 62TB useable storage, I have always worked on RAID 10, not sure if that is recommended or not in this kind of setup?
CPU, 2 x 6/8 core CPU's should be fine with Hyper Threading enabled
Memory wise 256GB
Disk performance is obviously a must as some of the VMs rely on fast disks, for things like UPD's which experience a login storm in the morning.
Many thanks

Re: Veeam backup server, hardware and rough estimate
So a considerable amount of storage, and considerable performance
Is there a target budget in mind?

Re: Veeam backup server, hardware and rough estimate
Not really, had a quote for a HPe with half that storage for around 26k
It might be we only need half and then use repositories we already have for one critical backups to keep the cost down
Haven't been able to find much on people actually using this kind of solution and the rough costs invloved
