Veeam stopped detecting Oracle on Linux VM Case # 02370469

Post by sysnet » 1 person likes this post

Hello,

I would like to share with you our problem with Oracle backup on a Linux VM, detected last week end solved by Veeam today.

We have a job that backups Linux VM with Oracle 12c installed on it. On one of these machines Veeam suddenly stopped to detect Oracle database.

The following errors were detected in the log:

Code: Select all

[timestamp] <295> Info Inventorying guest system
[timestamp] <295> Info [color=#800000]VSSInventoryInformer: Failed to perform inventory: guest OS 'unknownGuest' is not supported[/color]
[timestamp] <295> Info Checking if need to truncate Sql logs before snapshot for object 'xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx'
[timestamp] <295> Info Sql log backup is turned off. No need to truncate existing sql logs
[timestamp] <295> Info [color=#800000][SnapshotLsnInfoCollector] guest OS 'unknownGuest' is not supported[/color]
[timestamp] <295> Info [AutoSnapshot] Collecting Oracle database information
[timestamp] <295> Info [color=#800000]OracleOverallInfo is empty[/color]
This problem was related to VMware Tools update.
Before this update, the "Guest OS" information showed by VMware Tools was "CentOS 4/5/6/7 (64-bit)".
After the VMware Tools update, the "Guest OS" information is now showed as "Linux 3.10.0-514.26.2.el7.x86_64 CentOS Linux release 7.3.1611 (Core)".

Veeam B&R does not know this new OS. So, it raises an error (guest OS 'unknownGuest' is not supported) ans stops to continue with Oracle backup.

If you have the same problem, please contact Veeam support to get the private fix.
