Moving Per vm Backup files independently

Post by Stabz »

Hello Guys,

Currently I m doing per-vm backup files.

My job are set like this:
Job1 -> Windows 2012R2
Job2 -> Windows 2008R2
Job3 -> Windows 2008
Etc...

But now I want to change this organization, and do job by criticality.
Example:
New Job1 -> Windows machines with a RPO of 2 hours
New Job2 -> Windows machines with a RPO of 8hours
Etc...

Is that possible to move some backup files into a new folder and map them in my new job or not?
The idea is to copy some Backup files from Job1 and Job2 for use them in my new Job1
Or I have to start a new backup chain from scratch ?

Thanks
Philippe.

Hi Philippe,

You can't combine per-vm backup chains from different jobs and map another job to them.
Can you clarify a bit what the purpose of preserving VMs backup chains from the old jobs? Thanks!

Hi Dgrienev,

Hmmm you confirm what I thought.

I wanted to preserve the backup espescialy for the backup copy job to avoid to start another full backup between my network.

If the major concern is to avoid excessive traffic between remote locations, you can perform fulls locally and then seed the remote jobs.
