Migrating VMs to new SAN and VEEAM implications

Post by jrp76 »

We are migrating from an Equallogic iSCSI SAN to an EMC Unity SAN shortly. I got to thinking, when we setup new datastores on the new SAN and begin to move VMs over, all the blocks will change and VEEAM will in essence end up doing a full backup of each VM. Is that correct? I assume there is no way to avoid this? What are some strategies that people use when making this kind of SAN migration with VMware?

Also, this SAN has flash that it moves hot blocks of data as it figures out what is used more. I assume this transition of blocks from slow to fast storage will also cause larger incremental backups with VEEAM?

Nope, even CBT won't be reset after storage migration (which has not been the case with previous vSphere versions). Thanks.
