Replacing the system and boot disk

Post by marius roma »

A Windows 10 64bit PC is configured to boot from an hard disk.
The hard disk contains the system and boot partitions and a data partition.
I plan adding a new SSD drive.
Can I use Veeam Agent for Windows to backup the system and boot partitions from the current HD and restore them to the new SSD drive?
Can I presume that after the restore the PC will be able to boot from the SSD drive?
Is there any additional step and/or any issue to consider?
Regards

Hello Mario,

I was migrating my 1TB OS volume to a 256GB SSD, confirmed instruction is below:

1. Run a defrag. The goal is to remove the unmovable blocks from the end of your OS partition
2. Perform shrink while booted under OS. Size should be close to the size of the SSD (minus your MBR/EFI partition)
3. Take a backup
4. Run a BMR to the SSD
