Data Size and Restore Point Size Explanation

Post by 1-0-1 »

Is there any known explanation on what Data Size and Restore Point Size excactly means (under the properties windows on a replica)? The way I understand it is that the Data Size is the amount of data which was replicated - although the most recent replica always displays the full size of the VM (vbk) and the incremental sizes are listed below it (vrb). What is the Restore Point size then?

Hello Bernd,

Data size for both VBK and VRB files shows the amount of data that has been replicated to your target host.

Restore Point Size displays the actual file size (compressed and deduped) on the datastore. Please note that VBK file stores metadata only, so do not expect to see high values there.

Thank you!

Veeam,

I thought that replication does not use compression or de-deuplication. Am I wrong in this assumption?

Thanks,

Denis, you are absolutely right: replication uses neither deduplication nor compression as an original .vmdk should be presented to a target host. Deduplication and compression are only applied to rollback files (VRB).
