Problem with Agent Licensing
Hi
I've migrated all our independent free Agents to B&R managed ones.
We have 16 machines with agents in total. 14 Workstations (Win7/10 - without CBT and Guest processing) and 2 Servers (Server 2008 R2 - with CBT and Guest processing).
Allthough i deactivated CBT and Guest processing for the Workstation Protection Policy, alle of these machines request a Server Agent licence and not a workstation.
Can someone please explain me, what else could make them think that they need a server licence? Is there any possibility to decide myself, what license each agent should run on?
Thank in advance!

Re: Problem with Agent Licensing
Hi,
Here is the detailed overview of Workstation vs. Server edition comparison. Can you please take a look and check if you're not using any of the server's options?
Thanks!

Hi,
I assume all your jobs are managed by backup server and not by agents right? If it so, then the server license request is expected.
Please review existing discussion with a useful information about central management and licensing. Thanks!

Agent license is controlled by backup job, so please check that these hosts are not assigned to any other jobs or policies with Type set to Server.dasfliege wrote: Can someone please explain me, what else could make them think that they need a server licence? Re: Problem with Agent Licensing
Thank you for your answer. So the problem may be that i set all of the jobs to "Server".
Based on the description in the edition overview, this is exactly what also the "workstation" licence should include. Managed by the B&R console and NOT by the agent!
Quote:
Agent Management 2,5 NEW (Workstation and Server)
Deploy and manage backup agents via the Veeam
Backup & Replication server. Please note: The license
must be installed on the Veeam Backup & Replication
server to enable agent management functionality.

Re: Problem with Agent Licensing
dasfliege,
Correct. Veeam B&R starts to manage the agent license whenever you move your unmanaged agents under Agent Management functionality.
