Replication seeding assistance

Post by J-Wilt_MBC »

Hello, we are new to Veeam, previously using VDP for our backup and replication. I have created my backup jobs and have that running just fine. I plan on copying that information over to external USB drives and taking it to our DR site. From there is where I am getting confused as to how to seed. I have 5 backup jobs containing 49 virtual guests. I have datastores created at our DR site for the information but i don't understand how to copy the data to the store? Do I just use VSphere and copy it?

Hello John,
You simply need to copy you backups to USB drive. It can be done manually via windows explorer.
Then you bring the USB drive to remote site, copy the backups to the secondary repository, rescan the repository on VBR Server console and map the backups to backup copy or replicationjob.
Please check the provided links and answer additional questions if have any.
Thanks!

You don't need VBR server on the remote site. You can add storage device as a backup repository to the primary backup server.

I am guessing since we use 3par i would add storage and choose 3par. It appears we are not licenses for virtual copy which prevents me from adding the storage.

I believe standard license is sufficient for adding any number of repositories and replica/backup copy seeding.
Thanks

I am getting the error Virtual Copy feature that enables storage snapshots is not licensed on ***. I have a message to our reseller to see what I need to do.

Indeed storage snapshots are limited in Enterprise licenses.
But seeding has nothing to do with storage integration. So your goal is still achievable.
Thanks
