Veeam integration for Cisco HyperFlex

Post by javaaobo »

Good day everyone.
1.My environment is vSphere 6.0+Veeam 9.5 on Cisco Hyperflex(SSD*1+SAS*15)
2.The second point I see the following link:
https://www.veeam.com/news/veeam-unveil ... rflex.html
Key benefits of Veeam direct integration with Cisco HyperFlex include:
Minimized Impact on Production – Not using VMware VM snapshots means the high impact of snapshot create and delete operations are eliminated. This dramatically reduces the performance impact on production VMs during the copy process.
3.How to implement the second point?
4.When I use Veeam backup VM,some loading heavy VMs always hang(Packet loss) 5~10mins,how can I fix this issue?

Hi Javaaobo,

First: Welcome to the forums!

Second: To configure Cisco HyperFlex, please have a look at this documentation. That should get you started (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tml?ver=95)
To your point four: Most probably that issue will be solved when you use the integration as the production environment will be less impacted

Cheers

Maybe you run into a configuration where we had create a workaround for a situation on Cisco side which was fixed on their side already.
Our support can send you an fix for this. This should help with the stuns. Please reference to fix 122870. Thanks.

Please open a Veeam support case (if not done already) and ask there for it.

Hi Mike,
Thank you,I refer you offer link and try veeam+Cisco HyperFlex snapshot
1.test 1,I use veeam backup(vm snapshot) 1.1T exchange server,then hang about 5 mins
2.test 2,I use veeam+Cisco HyperFlex snapshot backup 1.1T exchange server,then hang about 20secs
=====
I use veeam+Cisco HyperFlex snapshot,to improve hang time about 5 mins to 20 secs
But still hang 20secs,have any chance to improve no hang time

Hi,
it is unusual even without any kind of integration that the VM stun for 5min. You need to check with VMware/Cisco why this is the case. Test with manual VM snapshot creation and releases to avoid fingerpointing to the backup vendor.

I guess that the fix 122870 that optimizes snapshot handling could address the 20sec VM stun. Please contact our support to get it.

Hey Javaaobo,

I saw that the case is escalated so I expect them to contact you again very soon.
But I also agree with Andreas, that the original stun of 5 minutes is rather badly. The stunning is probably because the guest operating system is performing more writes to the delta file than ESX can commit to the parent disk. I think you might want to investigate the VM's log file (vmware.log) to see what's happening.

I checked the support case. You reported that you had updated B&R to Update 3. Based on the feedback it is not clear if you have installed the Patch/Fix as well on top of Update 3 (dll change as described from support)?

Hi Andreas/Veeam Support, Can you confirm - is Fix fix 122870 to be installed on top of B&R Update3 to fix the VM stun/hang issue during the snapshot process? Or does Fix fix 122870 address this issue in isolation? We also have this issue.

Hi Michael, this fix optimizes snapshot handling (so addresses VM stun/hang issues). Please contact support to obtain it and also to report any other issues you're seeing. Thanks.
