Offload VAW Backups with Veeam B&R to Cloud
Good Day
We have a remote office in a different country with 2 physical Windows Server. We also have Veeam Backup and Replication Enterprise in our Headquater.
In the remote office, we plan to
1. Place a NAS Box into the remote office (and configure it in the Veeam BR in our Headquater as a Backup Repository)
2. Install VAW on both physical Servers
3. On each VAW we configure the backup destination as the Veeam BR Repository which points to the local NAS. Backup schedule mo-fr. as much restore points on the local nas as possible
-> Backup traffic should go through the local LAN in the remote office to the nas
So far so good. We now want to offload those two VAW Backup files once per week to a cloud connect service provider located in the same country as the remote site.
The question now is, which veeam component does move the data from the nas repository to the cloud connect repository. is it the veeam br enterprise backup server (which should not because he is not located in the same country) or can we force one / or both of the pyhsical Servers to act as move server?
Thanks
Best Regards
André

Hi Andre,
You can use a workaround described by Luca in the blog post to offload VAW backups to the two destinations by the agent itself. Thanks!

Thank you for your answer. Good to know.
But how does it work if want to use veeam b&r server with copy job to offload to cloud connect? which server does the offload? the backup server itself or can i have another server in the remote site doing this?
Thanks

The traffic will flow from remote backup repository (more specifically, from gateway server chosen in the repository settings, if repository is configured as CIFS share) to cloud repository. Thanks. The question now is, which veeam component does move the data from the nas repository to the cloud connect repository.

Re: Offload VAW Backups with Veeam B&R to Cloud
thank you vladimir, gateway server is the "mount server" in the repository settings right? i can't find a gateway sever setting...
EDIT: Just discovered that the Gateway server is only selectable if a NAS Share Repository is configured. For test purposes we have a reposotry on a physical windows machine. in this case i gues the data mover is on this machine and involved in moving data between local repository and cloud connect repository. i guess traffic is not routet to the backup server itself, traffic is just beteween local data mover (gateway server on a nas repository and local server on a "normal" windows machine repository) and the cloud connect server (ssl connection)
