GDPR Delete Files from backup
Hello dear Tech members,
The question is very simple : With the GDPR regulation we have the need to delete some files from our production servers, but also we have the need to delete the same files from all the backup and replication.
My question is about ability to delete files from the Veeam backup & replication.
Is this possible to:
1) Find all the files that contain a keyword (exemple: "DeleteTest.txt") in the backup & replication.
2) Delete all the files "DeleteTest.txt" from all backups.
3) Delete all the files "DeleteTest.txt" from all replications.
Thank you very much for your help
Yves

Re: GDPR Delete Files from backup
Hello Yves,
1. Files can be found with Enterprise Manager search.
2. Not possible now as backups are image level. It's going to be addressed in next releases though.
3. Once file is deleted from source VM, after next job run it will be deleted from replica VM.
Thanks!

Hello!
Yes, you can use Staged Restore functionality to make required modifications to the restored backups, to ensure sensitive data is not restored back to the production environment.
Backups themselves cannot be modified due to being image-level, but GDPR does not require this either. And in fact, there are other existing regulations which require backups to remain immutable. Otherwise, criminals would be able to just erase the history of their crimes, for example by removing their name from records associated with money laundering.
Thanks!
