Veeam Backup Validator

I was reading in the documentation for VBR that the "Veeam Backup Validator" can be used to verify the integrity of the backup files. It specifically mentions "backups of VMs", however I'm wondering if I am using VBR to backup endpoints using VAW, if I can still use this utility to verify those backups as well or if it is only for VM backups?

Is there any reason it can't be expanded to work with VAW files? It seems like the concept should be the same, especially since VBR is managing the backup files.
