Feature Request - Disable Protection Group notifications

Post by AustinP »

As the title says, there should be a way to disable Protection Group notifications. Currently we have a single group that sends a notification every time it scans itself in the morning (we've also limited its scanning too once a week and yet it still scans) and it gives no useful information, since the group is empty (also we can't delete it (Manually Added group)). An ability to turn these off would be very nice.

Hi Austin,

Unfortunately, there is no way to disable email notifications completely, but we are working on this functionality.

This protection group is predefined (used for computers added directly via backup job or backup policy). You can disable this protection group if that’s required.

about 2 years later...
latest version of VEEAM, patched.
Don't see an obvious option for disabling unnecessary notif. The job for endpoint is scheduled once per week. Sure it is right thing to get notifications of job progress status.
But everyday notif for one never changing protection group is simply not GOOD.

Would be nice to have a "tick" box" - disable notif, in properties of Protection Group.
May be there is something already?

little update:
1. few weeks ago I set rescan protection group (in group properties) to 1 day a week (the minimum available) - Thursday 21PM.
E-mail notifications about this event came daily...
3 days ago the server was restarted. No notifications anymore. Looks good.
Theoretically, I suppose to receive one tomorrows (rescan scheduled for Thursday night).

2. but there is another email coming daily. It is for actual agent backup:
Backup Policy: Agent Backup Policy for ABC_machine (ABC_machine) (1 VMs)

The backup is done Thursday night. But the same notif comes everyday until next Thursday, when the message contains new backup Day.
And it continues for the week.
I have to note that AGENTS in Manually Added node not sending the notifs.

pob579,

With current implementation of notification engine it's not possible to disable email reporting for some specific entity (but you can disable the email reporting for the specific event type i.e. disable reports for successful job runs). For the protection groups reporting we've fixed most of the issues reported by our users.

Basically there are three types of email reports for Agent Management functionality:

1. Protection Group email report: shows the information about newly discovered machines and agent deployment. It's being created daily, only if Veeam B&R has some new information to report.
2. Managed by agent job email report: shows the information about job configuration distribution (for newly added agents) and backup activity for the past 24 hours. It's being created daily.
3. Managed by backup server email report: it is created immediately after job run and contains job results.

I assume you are getting reports #1 and #2, is that correct? Thank you!
