Linux File Level Restore permissions

Post by victor.bylin@atea.se »

Hi,

Why do you need root privileges when the account is a member of sudo for restoring to a system map.

Example restoring a log to be overwritten or just restored after deleting to /var/log fails with missing premissons.
The account preforming the restore is member of sudo and you can both overwrite and deleting it by shell to that same location.

I should be able to write to that map when the user is in the group sudo, right?
So whats the diffrence between Veeams sudo integration and the ubuntu in this example?

Best regards!

Hi,

Do you refer to system.map located in

/lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build or in /boot, or somewhere else (/usr/src/kernels/$(uname -r)/System.map for example)?

Thanks
