Workgroup credentials for NAS

Post by Kaelex »

Hi there,

Last year there were talks that adding the ability to enter credentials in Windows was in the pipeline but I haven't heard anything since. Is this still being looked at?

I'm trying to send backups to a FreeNAS device through CIFS unsuccessfully since its in its own workgroup. I've set up NFS but it failed I believe because its based on freebsd.

I've also tried making a persistent share under the system account but the backup still fails.

Has anyone been able to send backups to a FreeNAS device with security enabled?

Thanks,

Kae

I cannot give you specific details regarding FreeNAS device, but currently the workflow is the same:

1. attach a NAS device to a Linux box, as it is described over here
2. use the same user account on both ends: backup server and NAS device
3. follow inscructions from this post to create a CIFS share on a backup server
4. join NAS box to a domain (if possible)

Hope it helps!

Hi Vitaliy,

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't want to have an additional server inbetween Veeam and the NAS but looks like I'll have to.

Does this mean that the option of adding network credentials in Windows has been abandoned?

Thanks,

Kae

Kae,

This option didn't make it to the current release, that's right. But I can say that this feature is still presented in our feature tracking system.

Thanks!
