SQL CLUSTER WITH CSV BACKUP ISSUE.

Post by mohit_rohatgi »

Hi Folks,

I am new to Veeam as we have recently implemented it in our production. Everything works good except of our SQL servers are left behind. More explanatory SQL is clustered and database files are stored on CSVs (Cluster Shared Volumes). Lately we connected to veeam support guy and they told us to use native SQL backup solution and then transfer *.bak to veeam as it doesn't support CSV by design. As of now we are following the same method to backup SQL but it couldn't stand for long.

I would appreciate if anyone can suggest alternate ways to capture SQL backup directly to Veeam or if Veeam B&R can have feature in future releases.

Thanks,
Mohit Rohatgi

Hi Mohit,
thanks for the request.

As Veeam always work on Image level there are some technology limitations. For example VMware can not Snapshot a shared disk and we can not back it up with the VMware Storage API.
Same thing on the Hyper-V side with Windows 2016.

However our Agent based backup development make constantly progress and we will not stop at https://www.veeam.com/kb2304

Yes, CSV support is still on the list of future improvements.
