provide unique guest creds to vms added by folder

Post by pvl »

Hello

If VMs have been added to a backup job via a vSphere folder, is it possible to give specific guest processing credentials to specific VMs, or must all VMs in the folder use the same credentials?

Hi,

If you add a folder then all VMs in the folder will use the same credentials, there is no option to specify per-VM credentials in this case.

Thank you

Unless I'm somehow misunderstanding the question, the answer above is incorrect.

When you add VMs by a container object, it is possible to specific passwords for individual objects. On the Guest Processing screen in the job wizard, click the Credentials button, this will bring up the Guest OS Credentials dialog. By default, only the container you have added to the job will be in the list, however, you can click the Add button, then expand then browse and add any object, sub-folders, individual VMs, etc. If the object you are looking for does not appear, you may need to select the "Show full hierarchy" checkbox. Once you add the object you can then set the specific credential, overriding the default specified credential.

Yep, you are correct - that's awesome and I must say totally not obvious - it feels so much like you are adding the VM into the backup again - just a simple screen note saying "to provide uniqure credentials for specific objects, browse to select and add the object" would have helped. Anyway - thank you!
