Enterprise Manager FLR

Post by SebastiaanTempels »

We are using Enterprise Manager to enable our Servicedesk to do a FLR. However, it is not possible to do this to an alternate location. The only options are the original location or download it to the client. When restoring a large file or folder, the last one is not an option.
Is it possible to add FLR in enterprise manager to an alternate location as a feature?

Sebastiaan, thanks for the feedback, your request is accepted. We, however, prioritize all features based on the number of requests and this one doesn't seem to be very frequent.

[MERGED] Feature request: Directory recovery / Copy-to featu

Post by cdesch » 3 people like this post

Hi,

the EM WebUI is our strategic UI for the server admins to operate with backups and recoveries of VMs.
Why EM ?-> In EM we could configure granular restore permissions based on VMs or folder -> this is still not possible in the B&R UI.

1) In the B&R console we can select a whole Folder which should be recovered, but NOT in EM.
In our environments, special for linux based VMs, mostly the admins recovers full folders an not single files.

2) In the B&R console it is possible to use "Copy-to", that means that the recovered files / directories should be recovered on a different folder location on the same VM or on a other VM.
But this is also not possible in the EM WebUI.

I think this two missing features are essential features for each server operating team in an Enterprise Company.

Thanks,
Chris

[MERGED] FEATURE REQUEST: FLR restore in EM to another serve

Post by slaburda »

I have a admin group which have defined privilege in Enterprise Manager to restore data only from specific VMs.

Now, they can restore files (from FLR appliance) to original location or download data to desktop. If they restore files to original location, also permissions are restored – it is OK.
If you just download files to desktop, permissions does not preserve.

Is it possible to add an option to specify destination server and path where to restore data?

Thank You

Hi Stanislav, no, this is not currently possible, however we do keep this possibility in mind for the future versions. Thanks.

Hi foggy, thank you for replay.
From my experience we usually restore date to another location. We face this problem on Linux. If “Download” data I don’t copy permissions. So this could solve the problem.

Talking about EM FLR, I might be blind but I cannot find a way to stop the FLR once started in EM. A hint on that? Now I just wait until it stops by itself or stop the session in the B&R server. Am I missing something?
thanks,

The session is also closed once you log off the EM.

Hello,
We are still struggling (especially on Linux servers) with data recovery to another location / eventually another server. Is there any vision to add a new feature to the new version of "Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager?
Thanks,
Stanislav

I solved with support another FLR problem. Support recommended to create feature request.

Any news on a "Copy to" like functionality in BEM? Our DBAs have been used to the ability to initiate their own recovery of MSSQL backup files from one VM to another with Networker which we are trying to convince them to migrate off of, but I don't see a way to accommodate this type of self service? Do we have to go the route of giving them credentials into the B&R server with a Veeam Restore Operator role? If so, can we restrict the scope of VM backup data their AD account would have access to?

Hi Joe, no news so far. Seems Restore Operator is the way to go, however, you cannot restrict the scope in Veeam B&R console.

Hi. Do you plan to add the feature "restore to another server" and "restore to another location" to a new versio 10?
Our admin team really needs this feature in real life.

Thanx. Stanislav

Since v10 is in a feature lock state (release date is close), there is no possibility to add something.

[MERGED] Feature request - Self-service portal (EM) file restore to alternative location

Post by masonit » 1 person likes this post

Hi!

As the subject says. Would be good to be able to restore files to alternative location. Like the "Copy to" funktion with GUI restores.

Hi Magnus,

Do you mean Restore portal in VSPC? If yes - we plan to add restore functionality to the future versions.

Thanks!
