Planning to start making "Backup copies". In our network we have 2 NAS storages (first for common backups and second for backup copies), both of them connected to ESXi server via iSCSI and shared to Veeam server(VM) as RDM. While configuring backup copy job in "Data transfer"-step there is 2 options: Direct and WAN accelerator. So we now facing the problem of understanding how backup copies will transfer data from first NAS to second ("NAS-ESXi-NAS" or "NAS to NAS").
Text from users manual: "By default, during the backup copy job Veeam Backup & Replication transports data directly from the source
backup repository to target backup repository. This type of transport is recommended if you plan to copy backup files over high-speed connections."
But how it works? How Veeam tells NAS to copy files to another NAS?

Re: Backup copy job. How "Direct" Data transfer works?
Data is copied between Veeam B&R data movers that installed on repositories (gateway servers, in case of CIFS). So in your setup, data will flow through the Veeam B&R server.

Re: Backup copy job. How "Direct" Data transfer works?
Hi and welcome to the community!
Since your repositories aren't associated with the dedicated Mount server or Gateway server, the mount server role will be assigned to the backup server.
Btw, which repository type are you utilizing, I believe it's CIFS Share?
Please review the article "How Backup Copy works" which describes the backup copy job process in details. Thanks!

Re: Backup copy job. How "Direct" Data transfer works?
By the way, are there any particular reasons why you're storing backup data on RDM? Wouldn't it better to convert volumes to NTFS and present them to backup server via ISCSI? Thanks.
