Source and Target proxy for replication

Post by luke80 »

Hi all, i have a little question. Is mandatory to use two proxy for offsite replication (one local and one on DR)? Can I use only one local proxy?

I have two sites, each one with their vcenter and their veeam.

I have configured an offsite replication with two proxy. The first proxy on local veeam and the second on the DR Veeam. All works ok but sometimes, some VM fails with "Detected invalid snapshot configuration" and i noticed that that error occured when replication runs while in the DR site a backup job is running on DR Veeam.

Is it possible that when a replication is running using target proxy of the DR veeam and while the DR Veeam is under backup job i got "detected invalid snapshot configuration"?

Can i use only one local proxy ?

Hi Luca,
For offsite replication, you must deploy at least one backup proxy in each site to establish a stable connection for VM data transfer across sites. If you replicate VM data within one site, the same backup proxy can act as the source and target backup proxy.
As for, "detected invalid snapshot configuration" could confuse the job. Do you power on the replica manually during the first run?
I would suggest to check this topic and/or contact support team.
Thanks

If you're running two instances of Veeam B&R, try to schedule the jobs in a way they do not overlap, since different instances know nothing about each other's activity. Btw, why do you need two of them?

Hi foggy, One veeam for each site. There are Two indipendent site and we leverage each other to replicate the infrastructure.

Hi Luca,

If I get it right, your DR proxy shared between two independent instances of Veeam B&R, so when it's busy with the DR Veeam B&R backup job, your replication job on the main site fails with the error? Thanks!

testing offsite DR replication. Added target DR vmware host to veeam backup infra sitting in source. will it work with one proxy in source ? or do we need one proxy in DR site as well ? having a proxy at DR is mandatory or optional ? how much gain can we expect by using a proxy ?

Optional, but if there is no target proxy, traffic will flow over network in uncompressed and non-deduplicated state. Thanks!
