Can Veeam B&R backup the its own Windows?

Post by henlen »

I am studying the features of Veeam Backup & Replication (VB&R).
https://www.veeam.com/vm-backup-recover ... tware.html

Assume I have installed VB&R on a physical Windows server, can VB&R backup the local OS/volume/file of its own Windows? If yes, does it have all features of "Veeam agent for Microsoft Windows" (https://www.veeam.com/windows-cloud-ser ... agent.html) ?

Hi He Len and welcome to the community!

Veeam B&R primarily designed for Virtual environment protection, however, in the latest version was added feature called Agent Management which allows you to protect the physical environment through the deployment of Agents.
You can find out additional information in the What's New document. Thanks!

That mean I need to buy an extra license of "Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows"?
(Assuming that I want full features and technical support services hence free version is not considered here)

Yes, only Agents with a paid license can be managed by the Veeam B&R.
Please take a look at the Help Center - Veeam Agent Management Guide. Thanks!
