Hi All,
I have a situation whereby the restore point I have defined on the backup job does not seem to be following it.
For Example,
Backup Job # 1, default restore point = 14. Backup twice a day. Backup Interval is daily. But at the end of the week, I got 28 Restore Points.
This is causing additional consumption of storage. Is there anyway the backup job to remove the additional restore points in my next backup run ?
Appreciate your kind feedback guys As always thank's in advance guys !
Regards,
Wen Jun.

Re: Veeam Backup Restore Point exceeding its defined number
Please check Job - Storage - Advanced ... Look at the Backup Chain that you have selected.
Did you have enabled (default) Synthetic Fulls and are these scheduled on the weekend?
This would mean that Veeam keep all the dependant restore points.
If you want to keep only 14 restore points and backup twice a day (7 days covered), I would unselect the Syntetic Full. Veeam will then perfrorm then Merges.
You can find some animations here:

Re: Veeam Backup Restore Point exceeding its defined number
Hi Andreas,
Yes that pretty much did the trick ! I was under the impression that synthetic Fulls backup chain characteristics would somehow what closely ressemble to forever incrementals, with the exception that there will be alternate synthetic fulls in between the backup chain, and that it would not retain dependent restore points.
I am relived of the space which was earlier consumed by those dependent restore points !
Thanks,
Wen Jun.
