SQL VM Replication - Failover

I have a customer who is looking to test failover for a SQL VM that is currently protected via replication from Prod to DR. They would like to test failover of that SQL VM (vSphere hypervisor) and I am curious if there are other steps specific to SQL that go beyond a typical VM failover. It seems with the transaction logs and other intricacies of SQL there would be some manual steps for this to work, but haven't had experience with this scenario yet. Has anyone tested this and is it really as easy as any other VM failover? Or are there SQL specific things that need to happen for this to work properly?

Some further searching in the forums makes it look like the planned failover option would be the way to go. This essentially would be similar to powering off the VM, moving to the other location and powering back on. As long as application-aware processing is enabled on the job, that should be all there is to it. Sound about right?

Correct, the planned failover will make sure that replica VM is identical to production one and then switch workload to it. Thanks.
