Large backup file copy from Disk to Tape taking more time

Post by sraj »

Hi,

we have an windows failover Cluster job with 5 nodes and the active full backed up data size is around 16TB.. (This is going to grow in future) We are duplicating this data to Tape as well.
On LTO7 tapes max write speed over fc is 300 MB/s and if we calculate at 260 MB/s it takes min 20 hours to finish the job. .

The Media pool is configured to have multiple streaming to write to many drives.. this multiple streaming is not happening as the backup file is an single flat file (.vbk) (.vib) for all 5 nodes.

Is it possible to to have the Backup file written as separate files for each nodes (5 separate files). this way we can have multiple streaming for the Tape copy to write to multiple drives concurrently.

If its not feasible now, can we make this as an feature request??

Thanks in advance.

Are those Backups Agent or VM backups?
If VM-based you could enable per-vm backup files which would result in 5 backup files per job run. And those could be processed in parallel.
