Network issue "Cannot detect IP address"

Post by dini@forum »

Hello folks,

Can you please help us in migrating from Linux bare metal server(physical server) to vmware esxi host from the ERROR saying "Cannot detect IP address".

Steps to reproduce the error:
When we click on "Select Linux option under veeam backup ==> select on IP address of linux VM==>Right click and click on scan".

Data Center Details:

Centralized switch connected to both the server also interconnect with our backup server, server01 is installed with Linux centos(physical server),Server02 is installed with Vmware esxi host and server03 is backup Linux centos server,I have added backup server as "backup repository".

We tried migrating physical server to vmware esxi host as a VM but unsuccessful,ERROR: Cannot detect IP address.
Can you please help us in resolving this issue or guide us to migrate from physical linux machine to esxi host as a VM.

Hi,

It's not clear what you have already done and what exactly is failing. Please describe how exactly did you migrate the physical machine. As I get it you have three servers:

server01 - physical server with CentOS (which version?) Linux installed

server02 - VMware ESXi host

server03 - Linux server (whatich distribution?) serving as a backup repository

Your goal is to migrate server01 to VMware VM.

You said that you had tried to migrate server01 to VMware. Did you use Veeam Agent for Linux, or you've migrated the server using other tools?

Thank you

So, you've added the server via this wizard.

First if all, please login into the Linux machine and confirm that it actually has IP address assigned.

Secondly, that's not how you convert physical to virtual using Veeam. One way of doing that is to use Veeam Agent for Linux. Please check this user guide article for instructions how to configure Linux backup job. After that you'll be able to export your backup to virtual disk.

Thanks

Can you confirm that the IP address is reachable from the VBR host via ssh client (port 22 by default)? Also please note that not all distributions are supported for automatic agent deployment. Check this user guide page for a detailed list of supported distributions.

Thanks

Yes, IP address is reaching from VBR Host,Also we have gone through with all the distributions and supported for automatic agent.
IF possible can you please connect our machine remotely through "ANYDESK" and guide us.

Please confirm will share you the ANYDESK ID.

Yes, you should rise a ticket as the described behaviour does not seem to be normal. Please post your case once you do so.

Thanks
