What's the extra VBK file for in each job?

Post by raymix »

Hi guys

I have extra .VBK files in each source job folder, it contains full name of job rather than a VM. These files seem to be even larger than the largest VM within these jobs.
Copy jobs do not have these files, it seems.
Literary struggling with storage space right now because of these.

For example:
Job1
-VM1
-VM2

X:\Backups\Job1
Job1D2018-07-280T220155.vbk @ 7TB (what is this file??)
VM1.xxxxxx.vbk @ 6TB
VM1.xxxxxx.vbi @ 200MB
VM2.xxxxxx.vbl @ 1TB

I called support (Case ID 03129907) and Michael quickly realized it's a problem with per-VM setting.

Somehow this setting got unchecked last Saturday 28th. There was no change that I remember of, definitely no change on a target repository.
If I did any work from home, then only some basic get- powershell commands to create reports.
I'll uploads logs to designated FTP soon, hopefully something shows up there.

Hey Raymix,

It seems strange that it got unchecked automatically to be honest. I hope that the engineer can find who/ what happened but it certainly should not change automatically. Keep us informed
Thanks

Hi Mike

That was me following Monday, actually, I was trying to save some I/O performance. After reading forum replies I noticed someone mentioned that disabling per-VM could help with I/O, but had no idea it would create completely separate new chain and lose all old ones.
Now, to deal with the aftermath of this poor decision... sigh

Sorry to hear that. Good luck and if your case ID is still open, don't hesitate to let our support engineers help you with the aftermath!
