Errorlevels / Returncodes

Post by Poweruser »

It is nice to include a script, but it would be more handy to have some common things in the GUI.

One thing is to tell the software what todo on returncode (errorlevel) 0,1.. for each batch executed.
a) abort with error
b) draw warning for admin
c) execute alternative script (this can be done inside the batch)

lets say we execute a pre vss script inside a hyper-v vm, we want to backup on returncode 0 only.
if returncode is 1 we want to power off the machine and do an offline backup.
or we want to delay the backup for an hour an execute the script then again.

this could be useful?

Currently, if you select the 'Require success' option in application aware image processing, Veeam B&R should do exactly this. For the job to have Success status, it is required that the script returns zero error code. However, I agree, some more flexibility could help in some situations.

especially we need one simple thing: require success is so forceful we need warn on unsuccess but still backup.
so the backup will be done with warnings. better a bad backup than no backup!

and if an error occurs, maybe we need to execute another script to get services up again or sth. else!

btw: currently i guess the backup skripts are executed from filesystem everytime.
maybe it would be nice to (optionally) read them from the veeam repository instead, so they will be backuped along the configuration.
