Virtual Synthetics and loadbalancing features on DataDomain

Post by baber »

Dear all
Hi

Two options have been mentioned in veeam document about DataDomain

Advanced Load Balancing and Link Failover
Virtual Synthetics

i read about that just want to sure did i understand correctly about that ?

1- Advanced Load Balancing and Link Failover : This feature is useful when our DataDomain device had minimum 2 network card which can load balance or aggregate traffic
between two network cards
2-This ability is just use for Ethernet network adapter and not work on FC connection

3- Virtual Synthetics = This feature is such as full backup synthetic

Hi Babak, your understanding regarding pp.1-2 is correct. Virtual Synthetics for Data Domain is indeed used for synthetic activity and allows to prevent copying actual data within the storage (and hence, rehydrating, sending it back and forth to the gateway server, and deduplicating) by updating pointers to already stored data blocks that comprise the new full backup file instead. Here's a bit more on that.

Will Advanced Load Balancing and Link Failover work with FC connections or just compatible with network connection ?

Best Regards
