Database Software for Veeam Backup Server

I am newbie in Veeam solution. I Read some article that backup server must be installed on Windows Server OS and needs database software MS SQL Server. Are the OS and database mandatory to use Microsoft ?

That's right - as per our user guide MSSQL is the only database that can be used as a backend for Veeam installations. You might want to leave a feature request, for example, there are topics that are dedicated to some specific databases, such as PostgreSQL.
