When using vdo (https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/look-vdo ... sion-layer) on linux redhat7.5/centos7.5/...)
to use dedup and compression features at guest level, it isn't possible to do a file level restore.
Whe use it on an lvm volume in this way , as example we describe the storage as slices starting from file system used to physical volume:
ext4
vdo
lvm
vg
pv
When we do an flr we see files on every lvm volume except those ones using vdo.
It would be great to be able to do flr because actually is the only way to have an affordable deduplication on linux.

Re: Feature request: VDO file level restore
Hello, this looks like a very fresh project:
Thanks!
We will consider support if it makes into upstream.VDO was originally developed by Permabit Technology Corp. as a proprietary set of kernel modules and userspace tools. This software and technology has been acquired by Red Hat, has been relicensed under the GPL (v2 or later), and this repository begins the process of preparing for integration with the upstream kernel.
Thanks!

please note that Redhat included it since 7.5 in April 2018
"Now with Virtual Data Optimizer (VDO), all required pieces for a transparent compression/deduplication layer are available in the just-released Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5. "

Re: Feature request: VDO file level restore
Adding a 'vote' here if there is such a thing. Please support the use of VDO as a layer of device-mapper as vended and supported by Red Hat, Inc for FLR and Veeam Agent for Linux scenarios.
