Replication strategy for remote offices

Post by kzhang »

If I have 5 remote offices and I want to replicate to HQ, I have to install a veeam server at each site.
is there another alternative?

You should be able to install at just one site with a few caveats:

1) You still need to license all hosts that are being backed up
2) Your network setup should allow for Veeam access to remote hosts
--2a) use a VPN over internet (most likely to be slow)
--2b) use a dedicated WAN (point-to-point leased line) connection (faster but more expensive)

i've thought about installing only one copy of veeam in the HQ, but whats the performance like?
also, with this I cannot do local backup.
If I have a veeam server at each site, I can do both local backup and replicate to HQ.

Performance will largely depend on your connection to the remote site.

To make local backups efficient - you will need to install at each site. There is no issue with installing multiple Veeam servers, just requires a little bit more thought into setting it up correctly.
