Copy Job - Rotated Media - Not removing old files

Post by keith Drayton »

We have a NAS that is used as a repository for the backup jobs to run to,
We then connect a USB disk to this that copy jobs run to,
All was working fine with the USB keeping 2 copies and removing old each day,

As the USB was connected each day we lost our air gap so decided to change things,

2 New USB disks, New Repository set with Rotated Media, Disks swapped each day,

New Copy Jobs set up, Keep 2 copies so if understanding correctly i should have 2 copies per disk,

Seemed to work fine as the disks populated for the first couple copies but now the jobs don't seem to be removing old copies, The disks are filling up and jobs failing,

Is something different because it is rotated media? or have i made a mistake in job config?
I was expecting it to work as it was with single disk.

Thanks

Hey Keith,

If I got it right, you are using CIFS Share Repository with rotated drives, that's the reason why Veeam B&R employs a "cropped" mechanism of work with rotated drives.
Please review Linux and Shared Folder Backup Repository section of the User Guide for additional details. Thanks!

Hi DGrinev

Thanks for the reply, having read that i think i understand, As i am rotating the disks each day a new Backup Chain is started each day and it forgets about the old chains leaving the files on the disks so i need to manually delete them, This is fine as i have to eject / swap the disk each day spending a few minutes deleting old files each morning isn't going to make a big difference, May even look at scripting it once im happy,

Thank You
