can one recovery media be used to restore other PCs?

Post by Yuya »

Hi,

We backup some PCs using Veeam Agent for Windows.
These PCs are the same OS.

[Q1]
Can I restore to PC(B) using recovery media created with PC(A) and backup file(vbk) of PC(B)?
In other words, can one recovery media be used to restore other PCs?
For example,
Restoring PC(B) uses PC(A)'s recovery media and PC(B)'s backup file(vbk)
Restoring PC(C) uses PC(A)'s recovery media and PC(C)'s backup file(vbk)

[Q2]
I create recovery media only when Veeam Agent for Windows is installed. Is there no problem?
Do I need to recreate periodically?
Is it OK to use it what I created at this time in a few years?

Regards,
Yuya

Hi Yuya,

You can use Veeam Recovery media for restoring on any computer, it doesn't link to the source machine or agent.
Moreover, you can use it for recovery from system image created with Microsoft Windows.
Please review this article in the User Guide for additional information. Thanks!

my 2 cents - if the other machine needs some specific hardware drivers (such as storage or network), and the machine where recovery media has been created at does not have those drivers, then you might have difficulties during the restore operation using the same media.

Thanks
