Oracle Archive Log Deletion every x minutes
Dear Veeam-Community,
for a customer installation we are facing difficulties with the configuration of veeam backup job for application-aware oracle processing.
The database is running in Archivelog Mode and is producing a high volume of archivelog data per hour. Filesystem space is limited, therefore we want to perform archivelog backup every 20 minutes and then delete the archivelogs after the backup in order to prevent space issues in archivelog filesystem.
We have followed this procedure:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tml?ver=95
It seems that with this configuration, the deletion of archivelogs is not done every x minutes by the archivelog backup job, but only once per day with the parent incremental backup job.
How can the deletion of archivelogs every X minutes be accomplished with Veeam?
Best Regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,
Have you tried using the "Delete logs older than <N> hours" setting mentioned in the article? It should fit your use-case.
Thanks,
Fedor

Re: Oracle Archive Log Deletion every x minutes
Hi Fedor,
yes of course. We have specified:
-> Delete logs older than 1 hours
-> Backup logs every 20 minutes
-> Retain log backups: until the corresponding image-level backup is deleted.
The "delete logs older than"-Option only performs the delete operation once per day, not every 20 minutes. We see that every 20 minutes, archivelogs are backed up, but not deleted. the delete operation only takes place once per day.

Re: Oracle Archive Log Deletion every x minutes
Hi Martin,
Thanks for clarifying.
Currently, the deletion of the logs archived logs based on their age/size is done when an image backup is being made (parent job), however, we do plan to implement a set of changes to this functionality and make the deletion process to go along with the logs backup job (child one). Please stay tuned for updates.
As a temporary workaround, you may set your parent job to run more frequently.

F

Thank you very much for this definitive answer. We will increase frequency of parent job and are awaiting updates ...
