Bare Metal Restore Exchange Server

Post by j45p3r »

I have a situation were I need to migrate an Exchange server from VMWare VM to a KVM hosted VM. I have installed the Veeam Agent for Windows (paid version) on the Exchange Server and created a full backup. My plan for the move is to shutdown the Exchange services to stop mail flow, take a final incremental backup and then turn off the source server. Then I will go to the target VM, boot to recovery media and do a restore from the backup file. Can the process really be that simple or an I missing something specific to Exchange that won't allow this method to work? Thank you for any insight.

Hello and welcome to the community Jason.

Is that a single node Exchange server? Thanks!

Yes, the server holds all Exchange roles.

Jason,

Take Entire PC backup and then perform Entire PC Bare Metal Recovery, but make sure that recovery iso was created on the original machine you are restoring. Cheers!

Thank you, Dima.

We ended up using DoubleTake Move for the job in an effort to minimize downtime. That worked perfectly for this case and now we are using the Veeam agent for regular backups.
