User FLR process in BEM for Linux VMs fail, Veeam thinks its Windows data

Post by joebranca »

I have an open case about this issue with no useful input yet (Case 03256920, and another time before that with case 02624023), does anyone know what might be the issue when the end user using BEM does FLR for certain Linux VMs (CentOS 6/7), and does not get asked the question whether it is Linux or Windows, with logs showing thus:

Starting FLR job for VM linux-hostname
FLR job started successfully on server 'veeam-mgt server'
linux-hostname: File level restore started
linux-hostname: Mounting restore point
linux-hostname: Batch mode
linux-hostname: Using veeam-mgt as mount server
linux-hostname: No disks have been mounted. Either disks of this type aren't supported or some errors occurred. See log file for details.
linux-hostname: Failed to mount volume C:\VeeamFLR\linux-hostname_6f77554b\Volume1 Error: Failed to call RPC function 'FcCheckFilesystemIsAccessible': The volume does not contain a
recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted."

So it appears Veeam is attempting to mount the Linux volume on the mount server, which in this case is the Windows Veeam B&R server. Any clues why this is occuring? We advertise our backup service to other campus groups as including self service restores, so this is obviously a cause of serious concner among our Linux admin customers.

We are on vsphere 6.5 U2, but this was also showing up prior to the recent patch.

Question, when you run the OtherOS FLR wizard on the same user that you logon in Enterprise Manager on the Backup Server, is it configured correctly and work?
Maybe there is just an configuration issue with the OtherOS FLR wizard there.

Yes it does work within the OtherOS FLR wizard, at least getting as far as firing up the FLR appliance, mounting data and browsing for file restores. However it is not the same user since the end user does not have admin access to the Veeam B&R server, and I don't have a local account setup (yet) on the Linux VM.

Let´s give the user temporary access to the Veeam Server and run the OtherOS FLR wizard (IP settings...). Check that everything works there. Then try again at EM please.

EM user that don´t have a configured Other OS FLR wizard provile will copy the last known OtherOS FLR configuration (last wizard run from any user). Maybe there is no profile or a misconfigured profile at this user.
