/dev/vdb1 does not show up

Post by sven.sonderegger »

Hi there

I do have some troubles backing up device /dev/vdb1. The volume does not show up and event with full machine backup it does not include it.
Any hints?

Regards
Sven

Hi,

I assume it's a virtual machine? What kind of virtualization (full, paravirtual, other) is it?

Thanks

Since it is KVM, and /dev/vd* is the kind of block device notation that is used for virtio devices, I suspect that the VM is paravirtual (which is not supported for now). However, I am not sure why are other devices shown in a different manner.

Thanks!

What do you use that vda1 partition for? Also I am curious how did you create that vda1 partition if fdisk does not see it? Did you use parted? What distro is it running?

Thanks

Please try to use volume-level mode and choose /dev/sdb1 explicitly.

Thanks

for those who are interested in:
Reason for this problem was that both virtual drives had the same disk-id. Wen modified one of those and it's working now.
