Replication Performance

Post by rvlsolution »

Hello,

we recently start to use Veeam B&R for the backups of our datacenter.

For the backups everything is OK, but we are experiencing some poor performance during a replication job. I try to explain :

The job starts and build the VM list regularly but instead of starting processing the VMs, it wait some minutes for every VM before start transfer data. Once the data transfer is started then is very fast. Here an example for our Exchange VM :

Code: Select all

Queued for processing at 12/11/2018 12:23:00
Required backup infrastructure resources have been assigned
VM processing started at 12/11/2018 12:23:05
VM size: 300,0 GB
Discovering replica VM 00:00
Getting VM info from vSphere 00:05
Using guest interaction proxy RVL-VEEAM.RVLSOLUTION.local (Same subnet)
Inventorying guest system 00:01
Preparing guest for hot backup 00:05
Releasing guest 00:00
Creating VM snapshot
Getting list of guest file system local users
Preparing replica VM 00:04
Processing configuration 00:38
Failed to set storage profile Default to disk [RVL-EXCHANGE_replica:2000]
Failed to set storage profile Default to disk [RVL-EXCHANGE_replica:2001]
Creating helper snapshot 00:04
Using source proxy VMware Backup Proxy for disk Hard disk 1 [hotadd] 00:23
Using source proxy VMware Backup Proxy for disk Hard disk 2 [hotadd] 00:51
Using target proxy VMware Backup Proxy for disk Hard disk 1 [hotadd]
Using target proxy VMware Backup Proxy for disk Hard disk 2 [hotadd]
Hard disk 1 (100,0 GB) 384,0 MB read at 319 MB/s [CBT]	00:26
Hard disk 2 (200,0 GB) 2,0 GB read at 113 MB/s [CBT]	00:25
Truncating Exchange transaction logs 00:01
Removing VM snapshot 03:40
Deleting helper snapshot 02:04
Swap file blocks skipped: 350,0 MB
Deleted file blocks skipped: 2,0 MB
Finalizing 00:00
Busy: Source 53% > Proxy 62% > Network 82% > Target 62%
Primary bottleneck: Network
Network traffic verification detected no corrupted blocks
Processing finished at 12/11/2018 12:44:21
I noticed that the job take a lot of time when arrived at : Getting list of guest file system local users

Let me know if you need other details.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe same issue. Can you please open a support ticket. Potentially there is a patch for this already. At least support can analyse the logs and can figure out the root cause.

It probably has to do with your "Proxy Settings". Came to this conclusion after I traced the error back to a repeating error in "C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\Svc.VeeamBackup.log" that started at the same "Getting list of guest file system local users" task completed.
