mssenses.exe Memory usage

Post by BTobbe »

Hi,

I'm unsure if this at all is related to veeam, but we are only having this issue on our Windows Server 2016 Veeam server.
After the last few weeks I've had an issue with mssenses.exe taking up all memory possible on our veeam server.
Seems to be related to windows defender, and if possible I would like to have windows defender running on the server.

Googling memory issues with mssenses.exe doesn't give a lot of results...
Any info if this is affecting anyone else using veeam or so?

Hi,

I haven't heard about this, but do you know if this happens at a particular time or during some activity?

Thanks!

It seems to only happen during daytime Around 10-13. It is not happening during our backup windows.
I can only see it taking memory from the resource monitor. https://imgur.com/a/JE91I2v

Location of the file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent\Health Service State\Monitoring Host Temporary Files 10\180\mssenses.exe
I find almost no information about this file when I google it as well... Will see if I can contact microsoft about this somehow.

Yes, contacting MS is the right step here, since it doesn't look related to Veeam B&R.

That folder would be the System Center Operations Manager agent.

Yes, quick google search shows that this process relates to the antivirus activity (not SCOM), so I would try to re-configure your AV software jobs to run at another schedule (less busy time) and see if this reduces the load on the server or not.
