Veeam Server 2003 32bit to 2008 R2 - 64 bit

I want to move my VBR server (VM appliance Windows 2003 32bit Veeam) to a new (VM Appliance Windows Server R2 64bit Veeam).

I am using SQL 2005 for my DB.

In theory will this work.

1) Install New 2008 R2 Server (Server18)
2) Unjoin old 2003(Server13) from Domain), and retire.
3) Join New 2008 R2 server as (Server 13)
5) Connect the Drives from the 2003 server to the 2008 server.
6) Install VBR 64 bit and connect to SQL database.
7) Done ?

Should it be good to go from here ?

Do you run virtual center on the same server?

If not it does not matter what name or IP the new Veeam server has. In this case you can just use the normal M$ SQL tools to move the database from the old to the new server (backup/restore, replication, detach/attach).

The VBR server is the only app running on that server.

I am using the centralized database (SQL 2005). I was thinking their might be some sort of server name since multiple veeam servers can point to the same SQL instance.

You should be good with your scenario.

It does work.

The only issue I have seen so far is a error message on jobs using VSS:
Starting guest agent
Cannot connect to host [xxx.xxx.xxx.x] over VIX library. Login: [oic\srvVeeam]. GuestLogin: [oic\srvVeeam].
Cannot login into the virtual machine: [[cx4-1-lun1-fc] OICDCOLY04/OICDCOLY04.vmx]. User: [oic\srvVeeam].
VIX Error: The guest does not support empty passwords Code: 3033

I did not realize I had to reset all the passwords for the Application Aware setting.

A couple other things that surprised were:

1) When I move the drives, they are set as offline

I had to diskpart
select disk x
online disk (put it online)
ATTRIBUTES DISK CLEAR READONLY (for some reason, they are in read only mode)

Tom, thanks for sharing this info. And that's correct you need to re-enter all the credentials after you've acomplished a backup server migration task.

I also just migrated from 2003 R2 x32 to 2008 R2 and had the same VSS error re "empty passwords". Re-entering the Application Aware password didn't help, it still saw it as an empty password. Perhaps the dabatase field got corrupted during backup and restore to the new server? I wound up having to recreate from scratch all jobs that use VSS. FYI
