Post by excel-gg »

When is support for the upcoming Windows Server 2019 coming?
Also, is there any update on Server Core support?

Hello excel-gg,

Windows Server 2019 support is planned for the next version and Core support will be provided as a part of Agent Management functionality as well.

Cheers!

It's now available, how long before we see the next Veeam version? https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/window ... available/

What is "Agent Management functionality" - is that something different than Veeam Agent for Windows?

While initial tests indicate that basic functionality of the current agent version is compatible with Server 2019, I recommend to wait until we ship the official support with next major version. This will give us the chance to complete the full regression testing on GA code, and ensure all agent functionality is working with Server 2019 as expected.

Agent Management is a Veeam Backup & Replicaiton feature that allows for centrally deploying and managing all backup agents via the single console. Cheers!

We plan to ship it before the end of this year. In general, our commitment to ship new platform version support is 90 days from its GA.

By the way, for those who have already downloaded Windows Server 2019, please note that Microsoft has pulled the bits - they are no longer available for download. So perhaps we should expect the new Server 2019 GA build now.

Thanks!

I have detailed how I first discovered the Windows Server 2019 ISOs went missing here:
https://tinkertry.com/october-2018-wind ... -et-update
and more details about the build numbers that are now gone. I also note that Microsoft updated their Windows 10 update history article on Sunday:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/hel ... te-history
with details on the files missing issue. Here's two excerpts:
We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809)* for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating.
*Affected platforms:

Windows 10, version 1809
Windows Server, version 1809
Windows 10 IoT Core, version 1809
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019
Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2019
Windows Server 2019

Are there any dates yet on support for Veeam to run on Server 2019? Very anxious to start using ReFS on Server 2019 to begin to use compression and deduplication!

Tim,

Please keep in mind that for standalone agent deployments functional Windows Server 2019 (with UI) will be required. Core server and servers with UI disabled (via feature on demand) can be protected only via managed by backup server jobs in Veeam B&R. Hope it helps, cheers!

Hello to Everybody!
Please help me to make clear some questions about Veeam Agent for Windows 3.0:

In User Guide (here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=30 ) there is a statement that "Server Core installations of Microsoft Windows Server OSs are not supported.".
But in release Notes (here: https://www.veeam.com/veeam_agent_windo ... tes_rn.pdf ) there is no such statement.
Earlier in this thread there was a statement: "Windows Server 2019 support is planned for the next version and Core support will be provided as a part of Agent Management functionality as well."

So the questions are: Is Windows Server Core officialy supported for Veeam Agent for Windows 3.0 or not? Which Windows Server versions supported in core installation mode?

Hi Eugene,

It's supported only by Veeam Agent backup jobs managed by the Veeam backup server.
You can find additional information here. Thanks!

The link that you've provided was the up to date either, but it's for the standalone agent.
The link mentioned in my previous post is about the Agents managed by Veeam B&R server, that's the difference. Thanks!

So I thought Server Core support was being worked on for the longest time, and it turns out it wasn't even for this product?
I want to run Veeam Agent for Windows on my Sever Core install. Not Veeam B&R, replication, or whatever.

Why isn't this possible? Is it possible if we add some of those Windows Features on Demand packs to add desktop features back? Is that something you could look into supporting?

Hi Derk,

Windows Server Core is already supported, but only as a part of Agent Management functionality that involves Veeam B&R. We do not plan to support Windows Server Core by Standalone Agent installations.

Thanks

Well, I only have 1 server to back up, and I'd rather not spin up another that will be in charge of backing up the other - seems a waste.

How come? Have you checked to see if any of these will make your development easier? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... all-fod-19

Single server shops is not the market where Veeam plays, at least not directly. We leave that up to our managed service providers.
