Run Backup Copy after Job end

Post by Paulo Balau »

Hi All,

I am able to launch a Backup Copy Job (BCJ) after a certain Backup Job 8BJ) ends?

And the opposite? Make a BJ to run after a BCJ?

Best Regards
Paulo Balau

PS: Since the backups varies in time (F vs Inc) but BCJ runs always at same time I may optimize the copies & jobs.

Hi Paulo,
You can choose Run after this job option in job schedule.
But note that backup copy job runs continuously and you can start synchronization rather than "run" it.
Thanks!

I am aware of that, and I fully understand but in some situations its is not enough or practical.
Since BC varies in time to execute (eg. Health Checks; Size variations; Merges; …) I have concurrent/overlapping jobs pushing for the backup infrastructure capabilities.
I would prefer a way (or option) to lauch the BCJ when I'm pretty sure the BC is finished.

Another thing is an option to "override" the BCJ Window and let the BCJ continue until is finished...

Could you elaborate what you mean by BC?

Have you checked the jobs statistics? What's the bottleneck of the jobs?
By the way, do you use Veeam ONE?

I'm planning to use Veeam ONE maybe next year.
For BC = I meant the normal backup (should use single B for better understanting, sorry )
BCJ = Backup Copy Job.

In these fora I always see asking for bottleneck, and I understand. But in fact it varies also specially if you're running paralel jobs. We cannot see each job "isolated".
Even If I had no problems regarding the architecture/resources/… the maintenance tasks will always push for resources resulting on a variable time consumption.
Supposing you have only 24hrs for backup Windows on a weekend but on last week you'll perform maintenance, and this will last 48hrs or more, then you have a problem.

Veeam may let users to have more flexibility on how & when to run such tasks. Eg, make this maintenance tasks independent.

Upcoming Veeam ONE release will contain heatmaps which provide an overview of backup infrastructure workloads so you can analyze and balance the jobs schedule and proxies utilization.

The release should be generally available in the beginning of next year.

If you're concerned about resource contention, then limiting the maximum number of proxy/repository tasks should help to avoid it (and actually is typically used instead of jobs chaining).
