More variables in email notification subject lines

Post by pshute »

The only variables available for email notification subject lines are %JobResult%, %JobName%, %VmCount%, %Issues% and %Time%. It would also be useful to be able to see whether the job was a full backup, incremental, etc. Currently, the only clue about this is in the heading of the table in the message body. If it's a full backup, it says "(Full)" after the job name. If it's an incremental, it doesn't add anything after the job name.

Is there any way to get it to add the job type to the subject line, or even the body?

Peter,

As far as I know this is not possible in the subject line. We might consider to look at it and see if we can add a variable for it depending on the time we have. How would you exactly see this? Just add the word to the subject (such as Full / Incremental / Synthetic Full / ...).

Let us know
Thanks

Hey there, i gonna pull out this old topic because we actually would like to atleast have the Veeam-Server in the Subject line. Unfortunately Windows Variables like %COMPUTERNAME% aren't parsed from Veeam :(

Hi Sylvala,

First: welcome to the forums
Second: Not sure what you mean. So in the subject line, you would like to see whether the tape job is a weekly, monthly or something. So something along the lines like %jobname% %GFS%? Which could lead, as an example, to: TapeJob01 Weekly
Is my understanding correct?

%TapeName% would let people know which tape to remove. ;)

Thank Mike,
That exactly that. Because with the e-mail notification I known wich tape to get but I dont known from what gfs repository il is coming from. Monthly tape, week tape, etc. I havé to go se the log in the console for that information.

Hi Sylvala.

Email reports for tape jobs should contain the list of used tape media (you should see those in the report table under details). Will that work for you? Thanks!

Hi Mike,

Not really. Just when I look a the statistic that I could see if it is for Weekly, Monthly, etc. For the report nothing in it said that. The only thing I see :

Success 9 Start time 00:00:07 Total size 4,4 TB Tape library: HP MSL G3 Series 7.10 (PIMBACK2)

Warning 0 End time 13:47:04 Data read 4,4 TB
Error 0 Duration 13:46:56 Transferred 4,4 TB

Backup Job 1Preprod SHP Success 00:00:11 01:29:47 140,5 GB 140,5 GB 140,5 GB 1:29:35 Synthetic full

Alain,

From this email report you can get a name (barcode) of the media that was used during this specific job run (and export it if needed), but I got your point. Thanks for sharing, I'll discuss your request with the team. Cheers!

It's so sad that confirm this suggest had not implement in version 9.5
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tml?ver=95

As an IT services company, we manage many Veeam backup server.
Once we get fail log, we need to seek in many server.

Now my solution is add host name to subject as constant.

Hello and welcome to the community ScottGao!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I've already noted the improvement request for next versions. Any other email notification variables you would like to see in our product? Cheers!

Most important is adding the Veeam server's hostname to the subject line by default. We have almost 30 Veeam servers we manage, so tracking down the Veeam server that has the failure is a real process at the moment.

I'd also really like to see E-mail notification setup be part of the initial setup wizard for B&R, or more prominent in the backup job setup wizard (with a link to setup the SMTP server information directly from the Backup Job wizard); too often folks forget to setup email notifications because the SMTP settings is buried, and when setting up a job it's buried under "Advanced". Backups are not useful if they are failing and nobody is notified!

Hello Nate,

Thank you for sharing your feedback! Mind me asking if adding VBR's IP/Hostname to the body of the email works for your case? Cheers!
