Oracle Explorer & Veeam Agent for Linux

Post by senolpasahan »

Hi,

My oracle database are on physical servers.
Veeam agent for linux agent installed.
I'm getting volume disk backup right now. to Veeam backup and replication EP repo.

What can I do to use the oracle explorer?

Can we use the oracle explorer only on virtual servers?

thnx

That's correct, currently VAL backups cannot be used with Oracle Explorer. I consider your questions as a feature request.

Thank you!

Any idea when this feature request will be available?

I don't know if Oracle Integration into the Agent is planned, but it was mentioned that the RMAN integration in v10 would include the Agent:

What about if I have a physical server and installed Veeam Agent for Linux? Is it possible to backup/restore the Oracle Database? Or just the whole machine?

This is planned but not in the current Veeam Agent for Linux functionality. Note the v10 feature coming for RMAN support would work in this situation.
All of our Oracle DBs are on physical servers (purely because of VM licensing cost reasons), and they're our only systems which aren't backup up through Veeam.
Would love this feature.

Correct, we will release a specific RMAN integration to cover the need for this.

Apologies for the usual "how long to release date" question - but is there target quarter for the release?
I seem to remember it was Q1/Q2 2018 a while back - but that may have been before the 9.5u3 announcement.

Daniel,

Would you provide some details please?

What is the version that they run? Is it a single-instance per machine? Do they use ASM or OS filesystem? Do they want just an image-based transaction-consistent backup with an option to use Explorers, or they also want to perform archive log backup to be able to rollbacks?

Thank you

[MERGED] Backup Oracle server

Post by FCa »

Hello,

Backuping an Oracle instance with Veeam when the server is a Linux VM is quite an easy thing to do with the Application Aware processing.

But, as far as i know, there's currently no such feature available when using the VAL.

I would like to know if we'll have soon others possibilities than just the "enabling the Pre & Post scripts" for VAL.

Do you plan to include Rman in your future release/update ?

Tks for your Feedback.

Hi Fabien

Oracle support is already on our roadmap for VAL. The Oracle RMAN plug-in which is coming soon won't be part of VAL release, though.

Thanks

Hi,

So it mean Veeam Agent for Linux not able to backup Oracle database that running on Linux? Can it perform full system restore? Or due to the RMAN integration havent ready it cant restore Oracle DB at all?

1. For now it cannot backup Oracle database separately from the machine, only the machine as a whole including the database running inside (with the exception for ASM and RAC configurations - those are not supported as VAL cannot snapshot them). Such back will be consistent at file system level, which means that no specific application processing are taken prior to a snapshot being taken.

2. Yes, it can perform full system restore.

3. We're planning to introduce support for Oracle DB in VAL. It won't let you backup DB separately, but it will ensure that the database in the backup is transaction-consistent.

Thanks

Is the oracle db backup feature added to Veeam Agent for Linux. Also is it possible to use advanced feature like Veeam Explorer ?
if not, are these on the roadmap ?

Hi,

The current version (2.0.1.665) does not have any of those, however the next version is going to include both (some limitations will apply).

Thanks!

VAL v3.0 has become available today and includes application-aware processing for Oracle.

Thanks!
