Reinstall Veeam B&R 9.5

We are running Veeam B&R 9.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2, Standard which is running fine without any issues.

Since Microsoft extended support is going to end on 14th January 2020 (sharp one year later from today) So we are upgrading all server's OS to 2012 or 2016 (where's 2016 possible) I have below plans for this veeam servers, want to choose one of them.

1. in-place upgrade of Windows Server 2008 R2 to 2012 R2
1.a - Take Veeam configuration backup.
1.b - Stop backup jobs & services.
1.c - Perform OS in-place upgrade including all updates availble.
1.d - Start Veeam services, test backup jobs.

2. Fresh Install Windows Server 2016 on this same physical server.
2.a - Take fresh Veeam configuration backup.
2.b - Stop Backup jobs and Veeam services.
2.c - Clean reboot and format OS drive only with Windows 2016 (Not going to touch any repository volumes and any othet config/settings)
2.d - Update OS drivers/HP firmware to latest (whichever applicable)
2.e - Install Veeam B&R 9.5 with latest updates.
2.f - Restore Veeam configuration backup to veeam server, reboot it and test backup jobs.

I am more interested in second option because sooner or later we'll have to perform this for Windows 2016 or 2019. Since I am touching veeam after 3-4 years again, want to see if anything I am missing in those steps or any special precaution I must take before doing this. Any bug or issues reported in those king of upgrades !

Hi Vijay,

Windows installation from scratch even better than in-place upgrade, so the second approach is much better.
We do recommend keeping Veeam B&R updated to the most recent version, since we are always adding new features and improve those we had already. Thanks!

You should stop all jobs before the configuration backup (2.b > 2.a), that's the only thing I see for a change. Thanks!
