U4 Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows license limit has been exceeded

Post by FrancWest »

I've installed the merged license. The license dialog shows 14 sockets (4 used) and 10 instances (4 used), but when backing up one of the agents I get the error:

Error: Unable to process host because Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows license limit has been exceeded

According to the documentation, the licenses are assigned once a backup job for that host or instance starts, but why then do I still receive the licensing error. I do have enough free instances.

When going to the 'manage' dialog of the license dialog the client shows as unlicensed, so I click on assign -> server, but then I get the error 'unable to change licensing mode for host'.

Hello, yeah all should work fine in your case, there are no issues associated with the new licensing here. What is the support case ID for this issue? Devs will need to see the logs. Thanks!

I had to reboot the server; probably should have restarted the services; to get my licenses to work after the merged one was added

Case number is #03380336. I manually restarted all Veeam services, but that didn't help.

This button works only for standalone deployments. With managed agents license should be assigned automatically based on the selected job type.

Investigating with RnD team!

ok, but then this button shouldn't be available at all, or the error message shown should explain the situation and not just state 'I can't do that'. ;-)

Francisco, according to the OP's case ID there is an internal KB article that can resolve this issue, so please keep working with the support team.

There was some sort of Veeam database issue after the upgrade. I had to run a SQL statement on the Veeam database to resolve this. Please contact support to get this SQL command.

Anyone know if this info has been posted publicly yet? I have a case (03467541) but it's going a little slow and I'm now almost at a week of no backups.

Sorry about this, please use Talk to a Manager button in the customer portal to escalate your case (and ask to change severity to level 1).
We don't post this kind of solutions publicly, because implementing them on your own may make your deployment unsupported.

I had the same issue. I installed licenses on the console as my EM stopped working and could manage allocated licenses.
I went on the customer portal and merged my licenses to one, imported them on the console but nothing, even though I have the correct allocations.

It turned out to be a pending Veeam services restart (rebooted the host after patching) and now works okay  .

Hope this helps
