Migrate large Exchange servers

Post by toreml »

Hi.

We are about to migrate DAG exchange servers (active / active) from one backup system to Veeam.
I expect that the inital backup will take quite some time - so I hope that the Exchange backup can run on the old system while this backup is running.

Can I do a normal none application aware backup of the two exchange servers - in the same job - and then run then next job as application aware - and stop the backup on the old system?
Or is there another way to best do this migration?

Regards

Hello,
just to make sure: we are talking about VMs?
Can I do a normal none application aware backup of the two exchange servers - in the same job - and then run then next job as application aware - and stop the backup on the old system?
In general yes. You might want to raise cluster timeouts as described in the best practice guide / KB1744

Best regards,
Hannes
