2 full backups (limited storage)

Post by Berkovska »

Possibly someone knows the trick which job to choose to keep 2 full backups on repository that has enough space for 2 fulls only?
Thank you!

Hello,

You can set the active full backup to be run every day for the regular backup job and then configure the retention policy accordingly (2 restore points to keep).

Thank you!

If I do so than I need to have enough space for the third full before retention kicks in.
I have space for 2 fulls only.

Yes, that's correct. As another solution, you can create two jobs using reverse incremental job settings and retention policy set to 1, though some extra space will still be required.

Isnt it just a duplication?
Can I have reverse incremental setting keep only fulls?

Why? If you run these jobs on different schedules (odd and even days), then you will achieve what you wanted initially: 2 backups on the storage.

No, this wouldn't work. Another idea that might fit in perfectly here is to use Incremental mode and enable the Synthetic Full Creation option (every day). Please take a look over here for more info.

Synthetic of Active I think its still creating full file before deleting old. In that situation i will run out of space.
Seems like its a tough task. Might leave it to keep only one full

Synthetic is formed after creating an incremental job pass, so it's not yet another full, but you're right, you still need some extra space for this job pass.
