Account for Self-Service Backup Tenant user

Post by Tos »

Hi

We have a question about tenant account of vSphere Self-Service Backup Portal.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... l?ver=95u4

If we try to add local user account(hostname\username) of Enterprise Manager Server, I can't add this account to tenant.
If we try to add domain user account, I can add this account to tenant.

But, from the following document content, it seems that we can use local account…
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... l?ver=95u4
"In the dialog displayed, select the Type of the configuration you are adding (for users or groups of users) and a username of an Account for either a trusted domain or the same as Enterprise Manager host."

Is it possible to use local account for tenant ?

Toshi

Hello Toshi,
thanks for bringing that up. I could reproduce that issue and will do some further investigations.

Hello again,
it's an issue in the documentation. We will fix it.

Only domain users can be used. It makes sense as VCenter cannot authenticate against the local user database of the enterprise manager.

Just to make sure... what was the goal you like to achieve? If it is only to allow restores to specific people to specific VMs, you can use the restore operator role. That one works with local users.

Best regards,
Hannes

Hi
Thank you for reply.
Our customer want to use Self-Service Backup without domain user.
(They already use the Self-Service restore function.)

Do you plan to be able to register local users with self-service account in a future update ?
(For example, vSphere local account (Administrator@vSphere.local))

Hello,
I see no way how this could work. Example: how should we map backupserver\customer1 to firstname.lastname@vsphere.local ?

Today the user domain\customer1 is the same in enterprise manager and vSphere, so we can map the usernames.

Hannes

Hi

"how should we map backupserver\customer1 to firstname.lastname@vsphere.local ?
Hmm…, it is certainly difficult.

Then, is it possible to make settings such as associating a user account of Veeam Enterprise Manager with a VM that can be backed up like a self-service restore in a future update ?

Hello,
it depends on the number of customers requesting that feature... so I cannot say anything about the future right now.

Best regards,
Hannes
