Adding HyperV VM

Post by arunrf »

Hi
Im new to Veeam and trialling the software. I have a simple Hyper-V environment:

Windows 2016 Host - on Workgroup
3 HyperV guest - on Domain A

Ive installed Veeam on the host but when I try and add the VM guests I keep getting:

Failed to connect to....hostname
Invalid namespace
Possible reasons:
Invalid Credentials
Specified host is not a hyperv server

The host is definietly a hyperv server

In terms of credentials im not clear what I need to use. Since the host is not on the domain I cannot use domain\username. I have identical local accouts on the host as the domain accountson the guest. What should I use to get this working?

It is not entirely clear what are you trying to add - are you adding Hyper-V host? Or have you already added Hyper-V host and try to add VMs to backup in the backup job wizard?

Then please make sure you're following this procedure. You should use the account with Local Administrator permissions on the Hyper-V server.

But the only accounts that have local administrator permissions on the Hyper-V server are domain\user accounts. Is Veeam able to see domain\user accounts when it isn't connected to the domain? I already tried one of the domain\user accounts that has local admin rights and had the same error....

Just a side note, if I add a Microsoft Windows server under managed servers with domain\user credentials that works fine - its only if I add Hyper-V standalone with the same credentials that I get the error

I suggest asking support to review the steps you're performing, that would be more effective. Thanks!
